Garmin GPS- Global Positioning System and its Important Everyday Functions

Garmin GPS

Global Positioning System (GPS) began as a positioning system project for the US Department of Defense. After this has become operational in 1994, it has become an integral part of not only for the US military but also other countries’ military operation. Later on, the GPS use spread out to civilian use and now has become of the many indispensable applications in everyday life. One of the companies who make GPS applications is Garmin GPS. Let us now look at how GPS used in common daily task.

GPS is used in disaster relief and emergency services. Rescue operations rely on GPS data to accurately locate victims. Garmin GPS is used specially on rescue operations that are conducted in high altitude locations where visibility is blocked by thick snow, thick rain or even operations that are held at night. Without GPS, rescue operations would have been a nightmare. Another application that uses GPS is map making. Cartography or map making needs to have a reality that needs to be accurate as possible. Without Garmin GPS, drawing an accurate map would take many years to accomplish. GPS aids in accurate map positioning and coordinates because without accurate data maps drawn would be a danger to those who will use it.

Geotagging is another application that uses GPS. Geotagging is the process of using geographical data and embed it in videos, pictures and websites. Using the data from Garmin GPS, this data will be used for location-based news, weather forecasts and other location-based data by just entering latitude and longitudinal coordinates.  Location coordinates can be applied to digital objects for functions like map overlaying. Almost all modes of transportation now use GPS in navigation. Be it an aircraft, a train, a passenger ship or even a simple sedan, all use data from Garmin GPS. Even if there is zero visibility, the pilot in the aircraft and the captain of a passenger ship, need not to worry because of GPS will report an accurate location making trips safer and more reliable. Heavy rains or the darkness of the night can no longer stop us from travelling because of accurate data from GPS.

Surveying today also relies heavily on accurate GPS data. GPS data from Garmin GPS is processed to accurately determine the terrestrial or three-dimensional position of points and the distances and angles between them. Again with GPS, surveying jobs would not be that accurate and will take a long time to accomplish. GPS is also used in cellular phone telephony. Garmin GPS develops and integrates it in cellular phone application. Cell phones that have integrated GPS are used in hybrid GPS/cellular position detection for mobile emergency and other applications. Depending on the country, there are some telecommunications departments which require phone manufacturers to integrate GPS in their handsets.

GPS nowadays have revolutionized the way we do our everyday tasks. Critical daily operations like navigation, cartography and disaster or emergency relief operations all can be accomplished using accurate data obtained from Garmin DPS. GPS indeed has now become one of the indispensable applications in everyday life.
